Development and execution of process analysis
Developing process control at the Rauma distillery has been an integral part of the plant’s work since day one. Even before the plant’s operations started, the strategy was set to operating the process without having to make separate laboratory analyses. Ever since then, our development of an on-line analysis method has been progressing rapidly.
In 2004, we introduced a statistical process control system to work alongside the existing system, which increased the accuracy of analyses. Most importantly, though, deviations from the quality standard were reduced. Our customers benefit from this in terms of more reliable and secure deliveries. They can count on Forchem’s consistent quality, which creates cost savings for them.
From 2005 to 2006 we laboratory-tested a new analysis method that enables us to determine the chemical and physical properties of samples. The results were excellent, and at the beginning of 2007, the method was adopted for continuous use for making analyses and adjusting distillation. It can also be used to minimise yield losses when changing grades. This also improves the consistency of quality and our ability to swiftly react to customer requirements.
There is most likely no other tall oil distillery in the world with such a highly integrated control system. Long-term, continuous development work will ensure us a leading position in the industry and the continued provision of competitive products and services.
