Development
of Forchem's Distilled Tall Oil Products

Over the years, distilled tall oil (DTO) has gone through an incredible development: the dark residual distillate of the past has gradually developed into a highly specified renewable raw material, valued by the chemical industry and used for many special products.

This has required investments by CTO fractionators, and advanced technology, but also major contributions from the European customers who, thanks to diligent development work, have found just those uses for DTO that best bring out the outstanding properties of the product.

Demand for product development arises of course from ever tougher competition and more challenging requirements by the end users. This applies to DTO products too. Therefore, in line with its strategy, Forchem has invested in taking into account customer needs and introduced the new FOR/“X” products.

The “X” products typically have excellent cold stability properties, which are often critical in lubricants. The excellent colour and reacting properties of DTO products achieved earlier were maintained. The development work made use of the earlier research results acquired during the development of the new, more stabile FOR2“X” tall oil fatty acid product.

Forchem’s new FOR/“X” DTO products have rapidly gained success and established their position as a special raw material for the chemical industry.
